Orthopedic Surgery Recovery Program

The Orthopedic Surgery Recovery Program at Bridgeway focuses on recovery for patients who have had total knee, hip or shoulder surgery. Our staff creates customized care plans and works closely with patients each step of the way to ensure that their recovery goes smoothly as they transition back to their normal routine. Home evaluation, a home exercise program and caregiver education are included in the recovery program.

Total Knee Replacement

Our therapists will:

• Work with you to perform functional activities, such as getting and out of bed, walking, standing, and stair climbing with safety.
• Develop an exercise plan to help you improve range of motion, build muscle strength and achieve full leg extension equal to the opposite leg
• Assist you with methods and tips for comfortable positioning for sleeping and sitting
• Help you develop, recover or maintain daily living and work skills
  

Total Hip Replacement

Our therapists will:

• Work with you to improve joint mobility, and restore or improve your ability to safely perform functional activities like walking, standing, stair climbing, or running.
• Develop an exercise plan to help you improve range of motion and build muscle strength 
• Outline precautions, or general rules, for any activity that you may do, such as crossing your legs or ankles and bending
• Assist you with methods and tips for comfortable positioning for sleeping and sitting
• Help you develop, recover or maintain daily living and work skills
  

Total Shoulder Replacement

Our therapists will:

• Provide an indepth musculoskeletal assessment and apply a system of tests and measures to assess your progress toward recovery
  
• Work with you to improve mobility, and restore or improve your ability to safely perform functional activities
• Develop an exercise plan to help you improve range of motion and build muscle strength
• Outline precautions, or general rules, for any activity that you may do, such as moving your elbow, wrist, hand and fingers
• Provide instruction on how to use a sling and other methods to help prevent damage to your shoulder from the stretching of the muscles or tendons, and how to rest your shoulder and elbow, during recovery
• Assist you with methods and tips for comfortable positioning for sleeping and sitting
• Help you develop, recover or maintain daily living and work skills
• Provide strategies for environment modifications and activity changes to help achieve desired rehabilitation goals
